7 Steps to create your own Reverse SEO strategy

reverse seo

Reverse SEO or Search Engine Reputation Management is the process of putting down the bad reputations or sites in Google, is also a reputation management technique used to push down a specific search result from the first page of Google Search by adding additional SERPs (search engine result pages) with the same target keyword. Reverse SEO is often confused with negative SEO, but they have different goals and require different optimization techniques.

To give you an example, if you had negative reviews on a social platform, you cannot access, or the provider refuses to remove fake online reviews, you would use reverse SEO to optimize your creditable listings like Yelp, BBB, Facebook, Google algorithm, etc.,

In short, Reverse search engine optimization is a form of online reputation management (ORM) using search engine optimization (SEO) and online marketing strategy to rank relevant web pages higher in Google search results; while pushing the offending page to the second page of google.

How do I remove a negative page from the SERPs?

The reverse SEO strategy is to create new pages that will outrank the specific keyword. Let’s get started!

Note: Before you start anything, nicely request the page be removed from the website owner. Read Google Guidelines to see if it breaks any policies (especially when it comes to bad reviews), if anything applies, submit a request to have it removed. In most cases it’s easier to request a removal then it is to do reverse SEO.

Step 1. Find the Keyword Difficulty

Before you start a reverse SEO campaign, you must understand what you are up against. The fastest way to do this is by finding the Keyword Difficulty (KD) of the search term.

To do this, you will need to use a keyword tool like Ahrefs or SEMrush. SEO Tools will give you an idea of how difficult it will be to rank for that keyword.

Keyword Difficulty for [brand]+Reviews

In this example, the page I need to be removed is a review site, [brand name]+Reviews is a KD of four. Anything under ten is straightforward to do. Anything higher, and I recommend hiring an SEO Expert of SEO Agency to assist you.

Step 2. Create Social Media Posts

Start by creating a lot of social media posts on your social media profile about the targeted topic and link to the pages you want to show up higher in the SERPs. This includes Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest. This step is especially important for Bing search engine results.

Step 3. Answer Questions

Answer questions and create content on Quora, StackOverflow, Reddit, and anywhere else you can see these questions being asked.

Step 4. Write Medium & LinkedIn Articles

LinkedIn Articles have been ranking very well in Google Search Results; Medium7 Stessss articles are a close second. I have not seen a lot of success with Blogger, Tumblr and other web2.0’s.

Step 5. Create new Web Pages

Create new web pages on your website about this topic. If possible create a hub and spoke model so you can fully cover the topic.

Step 6. Write and distribute Press Releases

Press Releases are great to get your content distributed and picked up by local news organizations. This will flood the results with different domains.

Step 7. Earn Backlinks

Backlinks are the currency of the internet, the more you have, the higher you will rank (in most cases), so see how you can perform cold outreach to boost link building for underperforming pages and have them overtake the pages you don’t rankings.

Following these digital marketing tips will set your campaign up for success. Please let us know if this article was helpful in the feedback form below.
